I had very detailed everything but lost it all... Perhaps one day I shall redo it, but not now. Still, I tried to give you the best defintions that I can. (Viper is creating other threads that go more in depth with certain terms, so please wait a bit before I go back to edit in the links.)
RP: RP stands for Role Play. A Role Play is something which you can make a character for in explore many different types of situations. There's real life, fictional, historical, future, and many more different types of RPs for all types of RPers. A guide on how to role play can be found
here.OOC: Out of Character. Used for posting in a RP as yourself. Typical uses tend to be asking for a recap or informing everyone of something rp related. Sometimes ooc comments are not labeled but instead are within ()'s.
IC: In Character. Posted after an OOC comment to show everyone you are back in character. Not normally used if the person used ()'s.
Recap: A summary of events you missed while away.
RPers: One who partakes in RPing, Role Playing.
Auto-Hitting: A form of power-playing. This is when you're in a fight with someone else's character and have your character hit them without giving them a chance to doge.
God-Molding: Making your character all powerful and unstoppable. A frowned upon act in the RPing community.
Power-Playing: This is the act of taking over another person's character without their permission. Another thing frowned upon greatly.
Meta-Gaming: Using knowledge you required ooc and using it ic when your character should not know it. Disallowed in most RPs.
NPC: Non-Player Character. A minor character that may be needed for plot purposes but will not play a major role and may end up vanishing after use. Normally the thread creator (more about that in the rp guide) will control main NPCs, unless it is needed for someone else's plot or stated otherwise.
Powers: Supernatural abilites that are allowed in some RPs. Sometimes the thread creator may say abilities instead.
Abilities: When both powers and abilities are listed then abilities typically refer to all non-supernatural abilities, such as hacking, close-combat, skilled at fighting with a sword, or even cooking. If the thread creator only has one of these listed in a fantasy rp then you can assume that it means powers, if it is a real-life rp than no powers are allowed. If you are confused then ask the thread creator to explain. Also can be listed as skills.
Traits: Physical traits a character has due to their race or perhaps their clan. Could be how they look or even if they can jump higher than an average human because they are not human.
Race: Typically refers to a character's species.
Setting: Where and when a RP takes place.
Advance RPer: A RPer who is literate and tends to post detailed and/or long posts. However, posting a long/detailed post does not make you an advance rper as they tend to be someone who has been rping for a while or someone who rarely ever breaks a rule. Advance rps are typcially not open to people new to rps (there are expections of course) and require about a paragraph or two long posts. This varies per thread creator.
Semi-Lit RPer: A RPer who knows what they are doing but with room for improvement still. A semi-lit rp typically requires good-grammar, completed setences, and perhaps requires at least a paragraph long posts.
Light-RPer: Either newbies or people who just perfer more casual rps. Typically there are no word limits in Light-RPs.
